ASIST
Scholarship Winners
At our May Chapter Meeting, we recognized our ASIST Scholarship
winners, La Rae Steffan and Heather Fairchild.
La Rae, a Petersburg native is a student at Christopher Newport
University in Newport News, Virginia. As our top award recipient,
we submitted her application to Corporate so that she can compete
for the national level scholarship. La Rae is scheduled to graduate
in May, 2007 and will be the first in her immediate family to
complete a college degree. She has been working towards a degree
in journalism for over 10 years as she has had to work while completing
her education. Her goal is to become a journalist for a nationally
recognized newspaper. She has tremendous drive and the ability
to persevere in the face of adversity. As stated by La Rae, we
will know her name as she is about to soar high and make an indelible
mark on society through her literary work.
Heather, a child of a minister; mothering two sons is a true
artist at heart. Throughout her childhood she explored and expanded
her creativity through art forms such as cinematography, photography,
drawing, sculpting costume design and acting just to name a few.
In an effort to combine all of her talent she is focusing on developing
quality media for elementary and middle school aged children at
ECPI. Our scholarship will help her to pursue her dream and aid
our society in bringing better images in multimedia for our kids
and grandchildren.
As the scholarship chair it has been a true pleasure serving
our chapter and having the opportunity to help another woman pursue
her dream. Our goal is to change one life at a time and give a
gift that will keep on giving. We wish our winners the best in
their endeavors and we know that our gift will grow in them and
soon they will bear seeds. Thanks to the committee members, judges
and our President in making this scholarship process a success.
